Information on the 22nd state competition in Dresden: The 22nd "Jugend musiziert" Saxony state competition came to an atmospheric close on Sunday evening with a final concert in the concert hall of the Dresden University of Music. Over the past two weekends (15 to 17 and 22 to 24 March), 448 participants in 16 different categories presented themselves to 56 judges from all over Germany in the categories of duo piano and a woodwind instrument, duo piano and a brass instrument, vocal ensemble, string solo, accordion solo, plucked string ensemble, pop vocals as well as percussion and piano chamber music. A total of 21 pupils from the Chemnitz region were honoured for their successful artistic participation in the state competition and forwarded to the national competition, 14 of them from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School.
Over 1,260 pupils had previously applied to take part in the state competition in five regional competitions in Saxony in January.
As a result of the state competition, a total of 139 young musicians will now represent the Free State of Saxony at the national competition at Whitsun in Fürth, Erlangen and Nuremberg and at the national Jugend jazzt competition in Hesse in June.

According to the Saxon Music Council, a total of twelve special prizes totalling 4,000 euros were awarded to outstanding participants by various institutions and foundations at the final concert.
The state competition is organised by the Saxon Music Council, which mainly finances the competition with funds from the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts; the East German Savings Banks Association was once again the main sponsor.
