Over the past two weekends, 22 young musicians from Chemnitz Municipal Music School took part in the state competition Jugend musiziert in Chemnitz at the music school, TIETZ and Villa Esche.

13 music students received a first prize and 9 music students a second prize.
Richard Junge (accordion), Karolin Scheunert (soprano) and Sebastian Wäntig (baritone) as a vocal duo were nominated for the national competition in Whitsun week, which will take place in Wuppertal this year.
There is no typical Olympic podium for first, second and third place. There can be any number of first prizes in each category, depending on the judges' assessment of the candidates. "Therefore, the participants endeavour to do their best, but are not really in direct competition with each other for a prize. This makes sense in a music competition that is not about 'faster, higher, further', but in some ways about an art form where the judgement is extremely subjective," says Nancy Gibson.
The special thing about the Jugend musiziert competition is that no entry fees are charged and all participants are offered a consultation with the jury at regional and state level. The guidelines for these interviews have been refined in recent years in order to provide helpful tips in a sensitive and respectful manner.
