"Jugend musiziert" award winners chosen
27th regional competition Chemnitz 2018 successfully completed
The regional "Jugend musiziert" competition came to an end yesterday evening at the Mittweida music school after the final results were announced. In Chemnitz, Mittweida and Aue, young musicians performed at the weekend in the categories of wind instrument solo, plucked instrument solo, piano four-handed, duo art song: voice and piano and duo: piano and a string instrument.
Out of a total of 178 participants, 67 students managed to qualify for the state competition in Reichenbach in March 2018. 64 participants from Chemnitz achieved a 1st prize, 37 of which went on to the state competition.
In the solo wind instrument category, 14 students qualified for the state competition: Donath Rehm, tuba, from Zwönitz achieved the highest score of 25.
In the solo plucked instruments category, 13 pupils made it through to the state competition: Anna Sieber, guitar, from Leubsdorf, Loujan Osman, guitar, from Freiberg and Freda Rosetz, guitar, from Halsbrücke with 25 points.
Six musicians qualified in the Duo: piano and a string instrument category: Maximilian Zaunick, violin, from Chemnitz and his piano partner, Jonathan Morgenstern, also from Chemnitz, achieved the full score of 25 points.
Eight young musicians qualified for the state competition in the duo art song: voice and piano category.
In the piano four-handed category, 16 musicians qualified for the state competition. Florian Cyrnik from Hartha and Lene Danneberg from Roßwein, Lennard and Cornelius Glanz from Chemnitz and Jonas Otte and Katharina Stettinius from Chemnitz achieved the full score of 25 points in the four-hand piano category.
The youngest musicians each won a 1st or 2nd prize, but can only qualify for the state level at the age of ten. The little ones achieved excellent results: Julia Platner and Niko Reinhardt from Burgstädt in the four-hand piano category with 24 points and Clara Stöß from Chemnitz in the solo recorder category, also with 24 points.
The juries were impressed by the confident performances of all participants. Dagmar Mewes, member of the piano four-hands jury, said: "In this day and age, it is particularly important and gratifying to see young people learning and performing music together so intensively. In the age of computer technology and mobile phones, it is particularly important that cultural and social skills are not neglected."

Prizewinners' concert
The prizewinners' concert will take place on Sunday, 4 March 2018 at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of Mittweida Municipal Grammar School, Am Schwanenteich 16, 09648 Mittweida. The youngest prizewinners and some nominated musicians from the state competition will showcase their skills.
Admission is free.
