From Friday to Sunday, 20 to 22 January 2017, music students from the region will be demonstrating their talent at the 26th Jugend musiziert regional competition. The music competition is organised by the Chemnitz regional committee. This year's venues are Chemnitz, Annaberg and Flöha. 64 young artists have registered for the solo categories piano, harp, voice, drum set (pop) and guitar (pop). 97 participants will face the judgement of the expert juries in the ensemble categories string ensemble, wind ensemble and accordion chamber music. Admission to all auditions is free. At the end of the 26th regional competition, the prizewinners' concert will take place on Sunday, 12 March 2016 at 4 pm in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School. Admission is also free.
The Chemnitz Municipal Music School is of particular importance this year. It is the main organiser and also the main venue for the regional competition. Responsibility for the annual competition rotates for the Chemnitz region between Central Saxony, the Erzgebirgskreis and the city of Chemnitz. In this way - as the organisers have also planned - the regional competition Jugend musiziert will receive greater visibility and recognition throughout the region.
"Taking part in the Jugend musiziert regional competition is always a very important artistic and musical highlight for pupils and teachers at the start of the new year. Everyone is very excited and full of anticipation. Of course, the participants also practised diligently over the turn of the year in order to receive high scores for their presentations and performances in January and perhaps - hopefully - also win a prize as a winner of the regional competition. They also hope to win a ticket to take part in the Saxon state competition in Bautzen in March," says Nancy Gibson, Head of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and Regional Committee Chairwoman.
All those interested in music and representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend the respective competition performances.
