The music students are ready to go: The 23rd regional Jugend musiziert competition will be held this year on Friday, 31 January and Saturday, 1 and Sunday, 2 February by the regional Jugend musiziert committee in Chemnitz, Flöha and Stollberg. 51 young artists have registered for the solo piano and classical singing categories. 114 participants will face the judgement of the expert juries in the regional competition in the ensemble category for brass and woodwind ensembles, string ensembles and accordion ensembles .
Nancy Gibson, Regional Committee Chairwoman and Director of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School: "Taking part in the Jugend musiziert regional competition is always a first and very important artistic and musical highlight for pupils and teachers at the start of a new year. Everyone is very excited and full of anticipation, and the participants have of course practised diligently over the turn of the year in order to finally receive high scores for their performances for their presentations at the beginning of February. They hope to receive high scores for their performances and perhaps - hopefully - win a ticket to take part in the Saxon state competition in Dresden in March as winners of the regional competition."
For the first time, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will be the main organiser and once again the main venue for the regional competition this year. The main location for the annual competition rotates between Central Saxony, the Erzgebirgskreis and the city of Chemnitz for the city and greater Chemnitz area. In this way - as the organisers have also planned - the regional competition Jugend musiziert will gain greater visibility and recognition further afield in the region.
The Chemnitz Regional Committee cordially invites representatives of the media and all those interested in music to visit the competition and would like to draw attention today to the prizewinners' concert at the end of the 23rd regional competition: The date of the prizewinners' concert is Sunday, 9 March 2014, 4 pm, in Chemnitz in the Jakobikirche, Jakobikirchplatz 1, 09111 Chemnitz. Admission to both the competition performances and the prizewinners' concert is free.
This year's regional competition is once again being financed by the City of Chemnitz (3,000 euros for the music school's event budget) and Sparkasse Chemnitz (7,000 euros as sponsorship). Regional Committee Chairwoman Nancy Gibson is delighted that this will cover all the costs of the competition - for example hall hire and piano transport as well as jury fees.
