Jugend musiziert 2013: 22nd regional competition with 56 young soloists and 80 participants in the duo and ensemble categories

The music students are ready to go: The 22nd "Jugend musiziert" regional competition will be held this year on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 January by the "Jugend musiziert" regional committee in Flöha, Chemnitz and Stollberg. 56 young artists have registered in the solo section for the string instruments, accordion and pop vocals categories. 80 participants will face the judgement of the expert juries in the duo and ensemble sections of the regional competition in the brass and woodwind instrument and piano, plucked string ensemble, vocal ensemble and piano chamber music categories.

Nancy Gibson, Director of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and Regional Committee Chairwoman: "Taking part in what is now the 22nd regional competition is always a very important first artistic and musical highlight for pupils and teachers at the start of the new year. Everyone is very excited and full of anticipation, and the participants have of course been practising diligently over the turn of the year in order to finally receive high scores for their presentations at the end of January.They hope to receive high scores for their performances for their presentations at the end of January and perhaps - hopefully - win a ticket to take part in the Saxon state competition in Dresden in March."

For the first time, the Erzgebirgskreis district music school will be the main organiser and main venue for the regional competition this year. The main location for the annual competition rotates between Central Saxony, the Erzgebirgskreis and the city of Chemnitz for the city and greater Chemnitz area. In this way - as the organisers have also planned - the "Jugend musiziert" regional competition will gain greater visibility and recognition further afield in the region. The Chemnitz Regional Committee cordially invites representatives of the media and all those interested in music to visit the competition and would like to draw attention to the prizewinners' concert at the end of the 22nd regional competition: The prizewinners' concert will take place on Sunday, 3 February 2013 at 4 p.m. in Stollberg in the Great Hall of the Bürgergarten, Hohensteiner Straße 8. Admission to both the competition and the prizewinners' concert is free.

This year's competition is once again being supported by the city of Chemnitz, the town of Stollberg and the savings banks of the Erzgebirgskreis.

The competitions of the 22nd Regional Competition 2013 will take place as follows:

Piano Chamber Music: Flöha Music School, Bahnhofstrasse 8, 09557 Flöha - Date: 26 January, 10 am to 1 pm.

Accordion solo: Flöha Music School - Date: 27 January, 9.30 am to 1 pm.

Plucked string ensemble: Stollberg, Bürgergarten, Hohensteiner Straße 16, 09366 Stollberg - Date: 26 January, 9 am to 5 pm.

Solo string instruments: Stollberg, Bürgergarten - Dates: 26 January, 9 am to 8 pm and 27 January, 9 am to 5 pm.

Duo piano and a woodwind instrument: Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstrasse 1 - Date: 26 January, 9.30 am to 3 pm.

Duo piano and a brass instrument: Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz - Date: 26 January, 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

Pop vocal solo: Chemnitz Municipal Music School - Date: 27 January, 11 am to 3 pm.

Jugend musiziert - Dates of the Saxony State Competition and the National Competition: The 2013 Saxony State Competition "Jugend musiziert" will take place over two consecutive long weekends from 15 to 17 March 2013 and from 22 to 24 March 2013 in Dresden.
