Joint "Christmas parcels for refugees" campaign
The Lord Mayor, city councillors, Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Chamber of Crafts, Technical University and Protestant and Catholic churches support the appeal
A welcoming gesture for those who need help: Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, various political groups of the Chemnitz City Council, the presidents of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts, the Technical University and the Superintendent of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Provost of the Chemnitz Deanery in the Dresden-Chemnitz diocese are jointly calling for a "Christmas parcel for refugees" campaign.Lutheran Church and the Provost of the Chemnitz Deanery in the Dresden-Chemnitz diocese are jointly calling for a "Christmas parcels for refugees" campaign (see attached text). They are asking the people of Chemnitz for their support.
Until 8 December, small parcels will be packed in the institutions to be given to refugees at Christmas. Particularly needed and wanted are (educational) toys, children's and colouring books, pens, puzzles, cuddly toys, hygiene articles for adults or household linen such as towels and wipes. Clothing and food cannot be packed. It is requested that it is indicated whether the parcel is for children or adults.
In view of the increasing number of refugees throughout Germany, the signatories are in favour of both organising the accommodation of the refugees well and creating good cooperation with the citizens.
The campaign is open to other institutions, clubs and associations that would like to participate. All information can be found at www.chemnitz.de. Parcels can also be handed in to the city at the customer portal of the social services department (Moritzhof) or at the information desk in the town hall (Markt 1).
