Johanneum Children's and Youth Foundation in its twelfth year - Johanneum Academy 2014 on medicine and health
Review and outlook - on the work of the foundation and partners
In its twelfth year of existence, the "Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation, which was re-established in Chemnitz in 2002, has an excellent record: 112 projects have been supported by the foundation with around 198,000 euros since 2002. This remarkable development - not least thanks to the interest generated - gives the foundation the opportunity to support projects in favour of children and young people in Chemnitz as well as to develop and implement its own projects in line with the foundation's philosophy. One of the tasks of the Board of Directors is also to familiarise the general public with the Foundation's concerns and activities: The annual presentation on the foundation's work to the members of the Youth Welfare Committee also provides an opportunity to do this. The current balance sheet recently presented here includes the considerable sum of the endowment fund, which has grown to around 457,200 euros since the foundation was established - made possible by numerous endowments as well as donors who have remained loyal to the foundation for years. Last year, the foundation was able to record donations totalling 7,311 euros and endowments of 5,310 euros.
Targeted project funding
Twelve projects were supported by the foundation last year with a total of around 18.000 euros last year: the association of foster and adoptive parents for an educational theatre project and the end-of-year event, the Tigerente parents' initiative association for the "Adventure Circus" projectproject for the "Strong and healthy in primary school" project at Altchemnitz school and social skills training at Friedrich-Fröschool, the Don Bosco House on Sonnenberg for the "Birikino" children's and youth circus, the Chemnitz Children, Youth and Family Aid Association with a grant for the purchase of a minibus, the German Child Protection Association/ Chemnitz local branch for the "30x30" campaign, a Christmas party for socially disadvantaged children, the ev.-meth. Erlöserkirche for its "Checkpoint KidsArena" project, as well as an individual case and two JohanneumAkademie projects
One of the main events last year was the 9th Foundation Day, which - true to the motto "Encouraging donations" - was held on 5 September 2013 to thank numerous supporters of the foundation in addition to presenting the foundation's work. Just how versatile effective help can be and what it can achieve in line with the founder's intentions was presented using the example of projects supported by solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend & Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen. The traditional raffle with the main prize - this time a work of art by Jörg Steinbach - brought in 780 euros for the foundation's coffers.
In accordance with the statutes, the Board of Trustees was re-elected in 2013: The long-standing members of the Board of Trustees, Peter Fritzsche and Joachim Höfler, retired and the new members of the Board of Trustees, MdL Ines Saborowski-Richter and Dr Peter Rebohle, Managing Director of Südsachsen Wasser GmbH, were elected.
JohanneumAkademie - the foundation's own project
In 2009, the foundation initiated its own project for the first time - the JohanneumAkademie, which has since developed into its own brand with the aim of introducing socially disadvantaged children to various educational programmes, awakening their curiosity, developing social skills and boosting their self-esteem. Each spring and autumn, pupils in years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part in the project weeks. Since 2009, eight project weeks have taken place to date, involving 106 children, and the Johanneum Academy's staff at the school hostel, which is run by the Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe Chemnitz association, provide ongoing educational project support for the children.
In addition to educational activities, the programme also includes sport and creativity. Stable partners for the foundation are the Kunstfabrik (solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend & Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen), Punkt Balance Fitness und Gesundheitsmanagement and the Chemnitz road safety organisation.
Committed partners continue to support the foundation's work in 2014
In the twelfth year of the "Johanneum" Children and Youth Foundation's existence, many committed partners from business and society continue to selflessly support the foundation's work. For example, the "Science and Technology" module is organised in close cooperation with Chemnitz University of Technology and the "Medicine and Health" module in close cooperation with BETHANIEN Krankenhaus Chemnitz. In April 2013, the "Nature and Life" module was trialled in practice: project partners included the Dresden University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture/Landcare and the state-owned company Sachsenforst, Salon Landrock and the alexxanders Hotel & Boardinghouse restaurant. Under the motto "Everyone is a great type", girls and boys learnt interesting facts about skin and hair in the salon and prepared a delicious three-course meal in the "alexxanders" under expert guidance and ate it together in a festive atmosphere.
The Johanneum Academy took place for the first time in October 2013 under the motto "Art and Creativity": With Haus E - Werbeagentur Chemnitz, the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau, the Chemnitz Municipal Theatres and the Chemnitz Art Collections, new partners were acquired.
Dates in 2014: The annual Foundation Day will traditionally take place on 4 September 2014. The Johanneum Academy is in preparation and will be held in April under the motto "Medicine and Health" in close partnership with BETHANIEN Hospital Chemnitz.
