Johanneum Academy: Children learn about healthy cooking

On Wednesday, 3 April at 10.30 a.m., representatives of the media are invited to the Bethanien Bildungszentrum für Gesundheitsfachberufe, Amselsteig 3 (access via Zeisigwaldstraße 80). There, children will learn more about healthy eating at the invitation of the Johanneum Children's and Youth Foundation during the Easter holidays.
The workshop entitled "Healthy eating can also be really tasty" is one of many educational programmes within the Johanneum Academy's Easter camp. This is a project developed by the foundation that has now established itself as a brand. It is held twice a year, one week in the Easter holidays and one week in the autumn holidays.
The aim of the Johanneum Academy is to introduce socially disadvantaged children to different educational programmes, to awaken their curiosity, to develop social skills and to increase their self-esteem. Throughout their time at the Johanneum Academy, the children receive educational support from staff at the school hostel run by Kinder-, Jugend- und Familienhilfe e. V. Chemnitz.
The Zeisigwaldkiniken Bethanien, which has supported the "Johanneum" for years, allowed a look behind the scenes this week. On Monday, the children visited the central admissions department and were able to see the operating theatres, which were unoccupied on the public holiday, just like the real staff in surgical clothing. Exercise, relaxation and creativity are on offer until Friday, with the children relaxing in physiotherapy and doing arts and crafts in occupational therapy. Artistic activities and a first aid course round off the week.
The project is financed by donations that the Johanneum Children and Youth Foundation receives from companies and private individuals. This year, the "Johanneum" is once again the winner of the Town & Country Foundation Award. The 1,111 euros in prize money will go towards accommodation costs, catering, fees and entrance fees.
