Stories and photographic insights about the apple tree wanted
Motivated by the programme item "Parade of Apple Trees" in the application book for the European Capital of Culture 2025, the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz is planning activities based on this.
With the photo competition "The apple tree throughout the year", the museum is dedicating a separate exhibition to the apple tree. Photos of seasonal "faces" of the apple tree are still being sought. All nature and photography enthusiasts have until the closing date, 31 May 2022, to submit their work.
In addition, literary texts on the subject of apple trees are being collected in collaboration with the writer Reni Dammrich, who also publishes under the pseudonym Sina Blackwood. "We are looking for exciting short stories or poems about anything to do with apples. No matter whether realistic or fairytale-like," says Reni Dammrich. The closing date for entries is 25 August 2021.

The apple tree (Malus domestica) is the most important fruit tree species in the foothills of the Ore Mountains and a defining element of the Saxon cultural landscape. Among other things, place names bear witness to this. Affalter, for example, a district of the town of Lößnitz, is derived from the Old High German words afal or aful (apple) and tra (tree). "I would be delighted to receive photographic impressions of the valuable orchards and stories from Affalter and Lößnitz," says Dr Thorid Zierold, curator at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz.
