Invitation to the press event: Intercultural Weeks: Diversity. The best against diversity

In preparation for the Intercultural Weeks, Mayor Philipp Rochold, Department 5, and the Migration Officer and overall organiser of the Intercultural Weeks, Etelka Kobuß, invite you to a press conference

on Monday, 7 September 2015, 11 a.m. in the town hall, room 118,

to present this year's Intercultural Weeks.

The Intercultural Weeks begin on 19 September 2015 at the Neumarkt in Chemnitz. Until 4 October 2015, there will be numerous activities and events where people of different nationalities will come together.

Following an appeal by the city to all Chemnitz residents to take part in the Intercultural Weeks with contributions, a total of 65 events have been prepared to provide information about migration and integration, contribute to greater mutual understanding and thus lead to more tolerance and cosmopolitanism. These include 19 cultural events, 24 festivals and encounters, 14 content-related events such as lectures, workshops, discussions, five religious events and two sport and exercise events.

The large intercultural parade will start at 11 a.m. on 19 September 2015 for the opening event and is scheduled to arrive at the stage on Neumarkt at around 12 noon. After the official opening, the stage programme will begin at 1 pm. In addition, 43 different organisations will present themselves on the market square. The evening concert will begin at 6.30 p.m. and round off the opening ceremony.

3500 visitors are expected on this opening day alone. In total, the organisers expect around 6000 guests to take advantage of the Intercultural Weeks.

All others involved in the organisation, such as Heike Berger from AGIUA e.V., Iris Tätschel-Machute from the Lila Villa Women's Centre, Ingrid Kutsche from the City of Chemnitz Social Welfare Office, Pedro Martin Montero Pérez from the Migration Advisory Council and Omar Jamil, who is organising the parade, will also be available for the press conference.
