Invitation to the press conference
Inspiring the dialogue between art and nature - talk with the artist Shannon Murphy - on Monday, 11 September, 3 p.m. at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz
In the run-up to the exhibition "VIBRANT MATTER - Fossil Treasures reflected by the international artist Shannon Murphy", the Museum für Naturkunde is inviting media representatives to a press conference on Monday, 11 September at 3 pm.
The artist Shannon Murphy and Dr Thorid Zierold, curator of natural sciences at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz, will provide information on the background, the accompanying exhibition and the museum's educational programme.
The exhibition can be seen from 12 September at the Museum of Natural History of the City of Chemnitz (in the TIETZ). Inspired by the colours and variety of shapes of petrified wood, the international artist developed his interpretations "VIBRANT MATTER - Fossil Treasures reflected by the international artist Shannon Murphy". Using acrylic paints, he interpreted the structures preserved in the petrified wood on oversized canvases measuring around 5 x 3 metres.
The challenge here was to reproduce the colourful and structural complexity of the plant material witnesses that have turned to stone using contemporary art methods. The six artworks are presented on the museum floor with a view of the TIETZ atrium.
