Mayor Barbara Ludwig welcomes the new trainees and students of Chemnitz City Council on Thursday, 1 September 2016, at 10 a.m. in the City Council Chamber of the City Hall.
The training of young professionals is becoming increasingly important due to the high number of people leaving the city in the coming years. The training spectrum is expanding due to the changing demand for skilled labour. Professions that have not been trained for a long time, such as gardeners (specialising in horticulture and landscaping) and media and information services specialists (specialising in archives), will be included in the training programme. A total of almost 1000 applications were received for the advertised training occupations. The effects of demographic change and the associated decline in the number of applicants are already being felt in Chemnitz City Council. It is therefore all the more pleasing that it was still possible to select from a strong pool of applicants in many professions this year.
A total of 68 trainees and students are starting their training or studies this year. These include 29 trainees in the profession of administrative assistant, eight office management clerks, two road builders, one animal keeper, two pool attendants, one media and information services specialist specialising in libraries and one specialising in archives as well as three gardeners. A total of 17 students are studying for a Bachelor of Laws degree in higher general administration and four students are training to become social education workers with a Bachelor of Arts degree. With the new trainees and students, 147 young professionals will join the city administration in September 2016.
Preparations are also currently underway for the training of three trainee fire inspectors and 15 trainee fire officers for the start of training in January 2017.

During the next training fair on Saturday, 17 September 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the event centre of Sparkasse Chemnitz in Bahnhofsstraße, interested young people can get to know the training programme, the training managers and trainees of Chemnitz City Council in person.
