Invitation to open day: "Rüsselchen" daycare centre presents innovative heating system in passive house construction
Municipal daycare centre Blücherstraße 25 invites you to a guided tour of the modern facility by experts on Saturday, 26 April, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The City of Chemnitz is using the 2014 Renewable Energy Day as an opportunity to present a daycare centre built according to the passive house principle and equipped with a modern, innovative heating system: An invitation to visit the municipal daycare centre "Rüsselchen" at Blücherstraße 25 in Chemnitz's Lutherviertel district is being extended for Saturday, 26 April from 10 am to 2 pm.
The "non-heating cellar" with its innovative heating system is likely to be of particular interest to visitors during the tour, which will be led by experts from the building management and construction department and the environmental office. In addition to a solar thermal system, most of the heating work in the building is carried out using waste heat from server cabinets. This is a completely new principle of directly avoiding cooling for IT systems. The waste heat from the systems is extracted on the air and water side and fed into the building heating and ventilation systems. The ventilation system is also supplemented by a gravel storage tank. This reduces ventilation heat loss in winter and can help to cool the rooms in summer. It was therefore possible to dispense with a conventional fossil fuelled heat generator in the building.
The city of Chemnitz held a realisation competition to find the best building concept for the replacement building at Blücherstraße 25 with innovative energy aspects. The Chemnitz architects Dankhard Remmler in collaboration with the engineering office for building services Prof. Reichel GmbH from Lichtenstein were awarded the contract and commissioned with the realisation (PM 224 from 27.03.2009 - www.chemnitz.de). The aim of the competition was to develop an innovative concept for the replacement building to increase the capacity of the day care centre. In addition to sophisticated architecture and functionality, particular attention was also paid to energy-optimised construction and high cost-effectiveness. The new Blücherstrasse 25 daycare centre is the first building to be built using passive house construction methods under the responsibility of the city.
The winning concept was characterised by functionally well thought-out, urbanistically and architecturally sophisticated and energetically innovative solutions. The city council's decision to build the centre was made in October 2009 and after a year and a half of construction, the futuristic-looking building of the new "Rüsselchen" daycare centre was opened in August 2011. The annual Renewable Energy Day, which is held on the last Saturday in April, will be held nationwide this year on 26 April 2014 in its 19th edition as an open day for committed operators of plants that use solar, biomass, wind and hydropower energy sources and demonstrate the practical use of renewable energies.
