Start of construction of the deer enclosure at Chemnitz Zoo - ground-breaking ceremony
The ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the new Hirschstall and its outdoor facilities will take place on Monday, 16 March at 12.30 pm.
Media representatives are cordially invited to attend. The meeting point is at the building site.
The old deer barn was over 40 years old and very dilapidated. Renovation was ruled out.
The costs for the renovation of the barn and the outdoor facilities totalled around 306,000 euros. Around 270,000 euros were provided by the "Tierparkfreunde Chemnitz" e.V. association. Sparkasse Chemnitz made a major contribution to the success of the financing in 2013 with a donation doubling campaign.
In 2014, further planning, tenders and contracts were finalised. The old barn was dismantled last week. Now the actual construction is due to start next week.
The residents, Mesopotamian fallow deer and Prince Alfred deer, have been moved to other facilities for the construction period.
