Introduction of a new passport on 1 March 2017
The Federal Ministry of the Interior is introducing a new passport on 1 March 2017.
The new passport will be equipped with new, modern security features.
There will also be improvements in user-friendliness through the use of new materials.
The passport, which has been issued with an electronic storage medium since 2005, will thus take into account the increased requirements in terms of material quality and travelling convenience.
In addition to the separate display of the birth name, the personalisation card will be replaced by a plastic card similar to the new ID card.
The fee for issuing a passport to persons who have reached the age of 24 will be increased by EUR 1.00 to EUR 60.00 from 1 March 2017.
The passport fee for applicants who have not yet reached the age of 24 remains unchanged at 37.50 euros.
Passports that have already been applied for or issued will remain valid until their expiry date. An exchange is therefore not necessary.
