Intervention area in Grüna: first work begins
Green space on Bergstrasse will be prepared by the end of February
In the second quarter of 2024, construction work will begin on the Bergstrasse intervention site in the village of Grüna. In preparation for this, it is necessary to fell eight blue spruce trees at the pond located there. This is to take place by the end of February.
The spruce trees do not represent near-natural riparian vegetation and are not suitable for the location of the biotope. Due to their location on the southern embankment, they cause excessive shading of the water and bank areas. The felling of the spruce trees therefore benefits the biotope and improves the bank structure.
In the village of Grüna, it is planned to upgrade the public green space on Bergstrasse as an intervention area during the Capital of Culture year.
Paths and recreational areas as well as near-natural planting will be created in harmony with the existing pond biotope. For children and young people up to the age of 14, there will be a small pump track (bicycle action area) in addition to the existing football pitch. Detailed information on this will follow.
The 30 intervention areas are the city of Chemnitz's urban development project for the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and are spread across the entire city area.
