International Youth Day 2025
Chemnitz celebrates the young generation with a variety of activities on 12 August
On Tuesday, 12 August - International Youth Day - young people will also take centre stage in Chemnitz to make their voices heard. For the first time, this day will not be celebrated as a centralised event, but rather in decentralised locations throughout the city. Different topics and formats invite young people to inform themselves, help shape the event and make their concerns visible.
A special highlight is the youth consultation hour with Lord Mayor Sven Schulze in the Schmidtbank-Passage, Hartmannstraße 3. From 3.30 to 4.30 p.m., he would like to talk to young people in person, listen to their wishes and ideas and take away ideas for urban development.
From 4 to 6 p.m., the City of Chemnitz's Children and Youth Officer, Dina Norberger, together with experts, will be hosting an information event on the topic of cyberbullying to sensitise young people to the risks online and strengthen their digital self-confidence. The event will take place at the CVJM Computerclub e. V., Am Laubengang 15.
Other events, workshops and hands-on activities will also take place in the afternoon and evening at various locations in Chemnitz, organised by youth centres, initiatives, associations and municipal stakeholders. Whether art and creativity, sport, film, gastro-discounts or cooking for yourself - the complete programme with all events, times, locations and registration information is now available online at: www.chemnitz.de/tagderjugend
Note: Prior registration is required for some events.
The City of Chemnitz is sending out a clear signal with the Youth Day: Young people are the future. Their concerns deserve attention, support and space to develop.
The International Youth Day - a global day of action - was established by the United Nations with the aim of drawing attention to youth-related issues and celebrating the youth phase of life.
