International Congress for Education of the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chemnitz
Mayor Barbara Ludwig welcomes the participants of the 35th Congress for Blind and Visually Impaired Education at 11 a.m. today. Interested parties from the field of education, training and rehabilitation for the blind and visually impaired are travelling to Chemnitz from 15 different countries. "More than 500 participants are coming to our city to focus on the aims and methods of education for the blind and visually impaired. The topic of inclusion is a new social upheaval that needs to be discussed. The congress will provide a good opportunity for an international exchange on this important topic," said Mayor Barbara Ludwig.
The organiser of the congress is the Association for the Education of the Blind and Visually Impaired, which will be discussing the aims and methods of education for the blind and visually impaired from 30 July to 3 August 2012. 200 speakers will form the specialist programme of the conference. The inclusion debate will be taken up in four symposia under the motto "Diversity & Quality". Exhibitions and presentations of research findings will complement the discussions. Wolfgang Angermann, President of the European Blind Union, has assumed the patronage of the congress.
The Congress for Education of the Blind and Visually Impaired takes place every four years. Chemnitz is the first city in the new federal states to host the congress. It is organised by the SFZ Förderzentrum gGmbH.
In the evening, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will receive the guests in the town hall.
