International conference on urban nature meets in Chemnitz
Cities Talk Nature Conference of the INTERLACE project on 11 and 12 May
Next week, the city of Chemnitz will host a specialist conference with international participation. The INTERLACE project's Cities Talk Nature conference will take place in Chemnitz on 11 and 12 May under the title "Unlocking land potential for urban nature". The aim of the INTERLACE project is to support European, Latin American and Caribbean cities in effectively (re)creating urban ecosystems in order to create more liveable, resilient and inclusive cities.
The conference will be attended by 120 people. In addition to representatives from the five project cities involved alongside Chemnitz - Granollers (Spain), Metropolia Krakowska (Poland), Envigado (Colombia), CBIMA (Costa Rica) and Portoviejo (Ecuador) - around 80 stakeholders from non-governmental organisations, associations, federations and scientific institutes have registered. These include Nabu, the Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz, Chemnitz University of Technology, the Leibniz Institute of Ecological and Regional Development Dresden and the Centre for Climate Adaptation.
On Thursday, 11 May, participants can look forward to a programme of lectures, pitch sessions and interactive workshops at the Chemnitz Pentagon3. Topics include the development of green spaces in Chemnitz, the role of green buildings for urban nature and the renaturalisation of brownfield sites.
On Friday, 12 May, there will be excursions to various greening initiatives in the city of Chemnitz. Stops include the Pleißenbach green corridor, the seed garden on the Sonnenberg, the green roof on Hall G of the Wirkbau and the testing of the app-based scavenger hunt developed in the project for sustainable urban planning in Chemnitz.

Both days of the event are open to the press. The conference programme will be simultaneously translated into German, English and Spanish. Details of the programme and speakers can be found in the appendix.
At the conference on Thursday, 11 May , Max Krombholz, INTERLACE project coordinator at the City of Chemnitz, and Sandra Naumann, INTERLACE project manager and research associate at Ecologic Institute, will be available to answer questions after the presentation of the workshop results from 4.45 pm.
The excursions on Friday 12 May can also be accompanied, but only after prior registration at pressestelle(at)stadt-chemnitz.de by 10 May. The following stations are available:

The annual meeting of the INTERLACE project will take place at Weltecho from 8 to 10 May with around 50 participants. This is an internal working meeting of the project.
Keyword INTERLACE
The Interlace project aims to valorise derelict land through nature-based solutions. The aim is to create new habitats and improve the quality of life for the local population. More vegetation and water areas are intended to counteract overheating on hot summer days. These activities will be accompanied by a participatory process to strengthen environmental education.
The project is funded by the European Union. In addition to Chemnitz, Granollers (Spain), Metropolia Krakowska (Poland), Envigado (Columbia), CBIMA (Costa Rica) and Portoviejo (Ecuador) are also involved.
In Chemnitz, the focus is on the renaturalisation of underused areas and environmental education. At the same time, the applied nature-based solutions offer health, economic and social benefits for the people of Chemnitz.
