Interior fit-out of Schönau primary and secondary school

At its meeting today, the city council approved the interior fit-out of Schönau primary and secondary school. In addition to the primary and secondary school, the listed building also houses an after-school care centre. The renovation work is to be carried out while the school remains open. The refurbishment includes the interior fit-out of the old building, including the implementation of the fire protection concept. Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2018 and end in April 2019. The costs amount to around 1.1 million euros, which will be borne by the city.

Work will begin with the conversion of the caretaker's flat on the ground and basement floors for future school use. Partition walls will be demolished, new room layouts created and the building services system installed. The conversion of the top floor will then begin. In addition to the changes to the existing room structures, former storage areas are to be used for teaching. These new rooms will have sloping skylights. The ceiling to the roof peak will also be insulated.

In the basement of the building, the dining room and the changing rooms and washrooms required for sports lessons will be equipped with an appropriate ventilation system. The rooms of the former caretaker's flat and the former caretaker's workshop in the basement will be connected to the dining room. To this end, the former flat staircase will be demolished and the ceiling closed off. The former flat entrance will provide the dining room with the second necessary escape route. The caretaker's workshop will move into the new building.

For the realisation of the fire protection concept, for example: Fire protection partitions on load-bearing wooden components and aluminium/glass fire protection partitions will be installed in corridors, safety lighting will be installed in corridors and stairwells, the fire alarm system will be extended, the electrical installations in the corridors and stairwells will be renewed and equipped with manual call points.
