Interesting facts about orchards
Adult education centre: Lecture on 12 April, 5 p.m. and excursion on 15 April, 10 a.m.
The Chemnitz Adult Education Centre in cooperation with the NABU Regionalverband Erzgebirge e. V. is offering two events on the topic of "Chemnitz orchards - valuable cultural landscapes in the region". in the coming week.
A lecture on Tuesday, 12 April, from 5 to 6.30 pm in TIETZ, course room 4.07 will provide information on the historical and ecological significance of orchard meadows.
This will be followed by an excursion to the NABU orchard meadow in Chemnitz-Rabenstein, Thomas-Müntzer-Höhe, on Friday, 15 April, from 10 to 11.30 am.

Orchard meadows are species-rich habitats for animals and plants. They are of enormous importance for the preservation of biodiversity, climate, soil and water protection. Last but not least, they characterise the landscape - also in the Chemnitz region. While their numbers have dwindled in recent decades, more and more is currently being done to preserve them.
In the lecture on Tuesday, Lutz Röder from the NABU Regionalverband Erzgebirge e. V. will report on his many years of experience in creating, preserving and maintaining meadows with various fruit trees that are also used as pasture for livestock. His recommendations will be supplemented by information on funding opportunities. During the excursion on Friday, gardener Sabine Roscher will explain the special features and care of orchard meadows directly on site.
