Intercultural Weeks from 17 September to 2 October
Opening on 17 September, from 12 noon on the Chemnitz market - Intercultural film week from 4 to 10 October - Intercultural journey on 15 September, 4 p.m. in the Chemnitz multi-generational house
The Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz will open on Saturday 17 September at 12 noon. This year's motto is #offengeht.
At the opening event on the market square, which was organised by the migration officer Etelka Kobuß in cooperation with AGIUA e. V. and the Lila Villa women's centre of the akCente e. V. association, visitors can get to know and experience intercultural topics and offers from different perspectives.
From 12 noon , Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, patron of the Intercultural Weeks, will welcome guests on the main stage. Among other things, the Chemnitz Peace Prize will be awarded.
The Market of Opportunities will take place from 1 to 6 pm . Here, Chemnitz clubs, associations, institutions and organisations will introduce themselves, there will be a wide range of creative workshops and children can try their hand at handicrafts and sports activities. There will be a varied programme of music and dance on stage, which will take guests on a journey around the globe, as will the culinary offerings. As in previous years, visitors can also chat over a hot drink and cake at the "fair coffee table".
The event will conclude at 6.30 pm with a concert on the main stage featuring sounds from Ukraine.
Culture, language, art, music and migration take centre stage at the opening event of the Intercultural Weeks. The active offerings are intended to encourage the city's citizens to engage in dialogue and exchange ideas. Guests can engage with intercultural topics in a variety of ways and learn about the important role they play in Chemnitz society.
During the Intercultural Weeks from 17 September to 2 October, there will be numerous events, activities and exhibitions by local associations and organisations in the city.
On 15 September at 4 p.m., young volunteers who are doing their European Solidarity Corps at the solaris Support Centre for Youth and the Environment invite you on an intercultural journey.
The four young people from Armenia, Latvia and Turkey will take anyone interested on a personal journey through the countries mentioned - in the spirit of the European Year 2022. They will share personal stories, introduce their places of origin and provide insights into their activities here in Chemnitz. There will also be typical local snacks to try. The event will take place in the event room of the Multigenerational Centre Chemnitz, Irkutsker Straße 15, and is free of charge.
Following the Intercultural Weeks, during the Intercultural Film Week from 4 to 10 October, a film related to the topic will be shown every day at different locations.

The programme is co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament, by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB), the Local Action Plan of the City of Chemnitz (LAP) and additionally supported by the utility company eins energie.
