(Inter)cultural speed dating at the "Meet New Friends" festival

For the fourth time, the smac - Staatliches Museum für Archäologie Chemnitz, Stefan-Heym-Platz 1, 09111 Chemnitz - is organising the intercultural get-together "Meet New Friends" in its foyer. On Saturday, 26 October 2019, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., old and new Chemnitz residents can meet, get to know each other and experience music, dance, activities and offers together. Admission is free.

The popular (inter)cultural speed dating will be back: visitors to the festival will get to know each other and receive tickets for a cultural event that they can spontaneously attend together.

All media representatives and members of the public are cordially invited to the event.

In recent years, "Meet New Friends" has attracted around 500 people to the foyer of the smac. Created in response to the "Summer of Migration", the 2019 festival once again offers the opportunity to meet new people and find out about new leisure activities - and all of this as inclusively as possible, i.e. for people of all ages and backgrounds.

New friendships will once again be encouraged through the voucher exchange: Immediately after getting to know each other - preferably interculturally - a cultural event can be attended together. Various institutions, such as the Chemnitz museums, have donated tickets for this purpose.

A special highlight this year is the storyteller Jan Deike, who tells and sets Arabic fairy tales to music. Many other participants will be presenting their offerings and offering hands-on activities. The aim of every programme and every activity is to get to know people in an uncomplicated way.

The event is accompanied by an extensive programme of workshops, dance and music performances. Highlights include performances by Bandamora and the Folk Association, including join-in dancing, the Syrian band YouMa, the Indian dance group Sinjini, Kurdish music and the Mambo drummers' combo.

"Meet New Friends" is organised by Familienverein für Groß und Klein in Chemnitz e. V. in cooperation with smac, the City of Chemnitz's migration officer and numerous other partners. The event is sponsored by the Chemnitz-Mitte citizens' platform.
