Interactive bus tour, tram driving school and discovery tour for children and young people

City of Chemnitz and Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachen invite you to European Mobility Week in September - Daycare centres and schools can now register for the free offers at the VMS and at www.chemnitz.de

From 16 to 22 September 2014, young Chemnitz residents are invited to take part in special activities: On a discovery tour through the city centre, girls and boys in grades 3 and 4 solve small tasks and collect stamps at the CVAG Mobility Centre, the Natural History Museum and the City Library, the Tourist Information Office, the Red Tower and the VMS customer office. Pupils in years 7 to 10 explore the Chemnitz Art Collections, the Chemnitz Municipal Theatre and the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology on their tour. In the tram driving school at the CVAG tram station, you can try out what it's like to drive a tram yourself.

With the "Chalk makes you mobile" campaign, children from the age of four will decorate the theatre square with mobile motifs under the guidance of staff from the art collections. Small experiments on climate change and the construction of a water wheel are part of the KlimaKiste (climate box) offered by the Chemnitz Environmental Library. During the Mobility Day, the girls and boys will experience an age simulation using a gerontological test suit. They will also set off on an interactive bus journey with various stops, behind which interesting and unusual sports opportunities from Chemnitz clubs are hidden.

Over the next few days, invitations will be sent directly to the organisations. Groups from day-care centres and school classes from primary schools, secondary schools and grammar schools will then be able to select the activities that interest them from the extensive programme.

Registration: Registration for the free programme is now open - contact the VMS: Katja Berger, call 0371/4000861, e-mail: katja.berger(at)vms.de

The entire programme and registration forms are published on the City of Chemnitz website at www.chemnitz.de > The City > European Work > Events

Every year, cities across Europe organise the Action Week to sensitise citizens to sustainable mobility with a wide variety of offers. The advantages of walking, cycling and/or using public transport are also highlighted. This year's motto "Our streets, our choice" is intended to encourage people to think about how they see public space and how they could help shape it.
