Intensive algae growth in the castle pond
Large fountain is operated for longer
Due to the high temperatures, the strong sunlight and the low water inflow via the Pleißenbach, algae are currently developing intensively in the castle pond. This has been pointed out by the Parks Department.
As a countermeasure, the running time of the large fountain in the castle pond has been extended from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice in order to better aerate the pond water.
The Parks Department would like to point out that the castle pond is not a bathing water and expressly appeals to visitors to the castle pond to refrain from feeding water birds (and fish) in the interests of water ecology. This is because uneaten food decomposes, binding oxygen and further increasing the formation of sludge.
In addition, an overpopulation of animals living on and in the pond disturbs the water balance.
