Insight into the battery storage system at eins

Guided tour on the occasion of the Saxon Energy Days: on 26 April, 3 p.m.

On Friday 26 April at 3 p.m., the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency, in cooperation with the utility company eins, invites interested parties to a guided tour of the battery storage facility at eins, Dammweg 15. The occasion is the Saxon Energy Days and the Renewable Energy Day.

The tour, which is suitable for people aged 14 and over, lasts around 75 minutes and is limited to 15 people. Registration at https://mitdenken.sachsen.de/-hGXw53rg is required.

The battery storage facility at eins is one of the largest of its kind in Saxony. It has a capacity of around four million R6/AA batteries (1.5 V/2.6 Ah) or 18,000 car starter batteries (12 V/74 Ah) and ensures regional electricity quality. This saves around 46,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, which would otherwise be produced in a conventional power plant.

The background

From 6 to 27 April 2024, various campaigns on the topic of renewable energies will take place throughout Saxony. Both private and non-private organisations can take part in the campaign initiated by the Free State of Saxony. 27 April, Renewable Energy Day, also marks the anniversary of the Chernobyl reactor disaster. To mark this occasion, various campaigns are being organised throughout Germany.
