Information steles with audio stations and displays will provide information about the city's history

Contract awarded to an agency from Chemnitz

The design of the new information steles on the city's history was presented for the first time today in the City of Chemnitz's culture committee. On 7 December 2016, Chemnitz City Council approved a concept for the installation of modern information steles in Chemnitz city centre. This was followed by a nationwide tender. The Chemnitz advertising agency WVD Dialog Marketing was awarded the contract.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "In the 875th anniversary year of Chemnitz, we will be able to inaugurate modern information steles that not only convey knowledge, but are also fun and enjoyable with digital offers."

An exclamation mark for the city's history
The information stele is produced in a special format in the shape of an exclamation mark. During development, it was particularly important that the design was modern, had artistic elements and blended discreetly into the cityscape. Great importance was also attached to accessibility and protection against vandalism.

There will be two different versions in the cityscape from next year: on the one hand, stelae with audio stations, where texts and images can be displayed and audio files can be played at the touch of a button, and on the other, digital stelae that can be operated with a 46-inch display via touch screen and display and play texts, images, audio files and videos. The first digital stele is to be installed on the market square in spring. A further four locations will follow in 2018. The content will be created by the city archive, freelance historians and the mayor's office.

Sponsors wanted
The costs for the five steles will amount to around 100,000 euros in 2018. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament via the participation funding programme of the state of Saxony.
