Information on the strike in municipal day-care centres

Warning strike announced for 6 and 7 March - parents will be informed by the institution

On Thursday, 6 March, the Verdi trade union has called on employees in social and educational professions in municipal childcare facilities to go on warning strike. The Verdi union is also calling on employees, trainees, students and interns in the city of Chemnitz to strike on Friday, 7 March. This means that day-care centres may also be affected.

The City of Chemnitz, as the responsible body for the municipal daycare centres, will not make any decisions regarding closures or partial closures or the organisation of emergency care in the daycare centres.

If employees from municipal daycare centres take part in the warning strike and this leads to restrictions in childcare, parents will be informed by the respective centre.

In accordance with § 3 Para. 4 of the parental contribution statutes, necessary closures of facilities for operational reasons (e.g. strike action, disasters) do not lead to a reduction or cancellation of the parental contribution.

If a trade union calls a strike, all employees of these facilities have the right to strike if they are affected by the subject of the strike. The right to strike is protected by the constitution (Article 9 (3) of the Basic Law).
