Information on the replacement construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway tracks
Demolition of the old bridge section towards the city centre will take place from 14 to 16 August - full closure of Zschopauer Straße from 12 to 28 August
The demolition of the bridge section on the city-bound carriageway of Zschopauer Straße will take place next weekend. This scheduled measure must take place with a full closure of Zschopauer Straße and the railway tracks below. Due to the extent of the construction work, it will be necessary to work through the night, as was the case with the first section.
To this end, the Dresden/Werdau and Chemnitz/Aue railway lines will be closed from 10 a.m. on Friday, 14 August until 5 a.m. on Monday, 17 August. The date has been part of DB AG's planning for three years.
The superstructure of the bridge, which has been cut into individual segments, will be excavated using two mobile cranes, one 200 tonne and one 300 tonne crane, each at the abutments. Individual elements weighing between 36 tonnes and 65 tonnes will be moved.
Zschopauer Straße will therefore be fully closed between Lutherstraße and Ritterstraße during the course of the day from Wednesday, 12 August. The full closure must remain in place until 28 August for segment crushing of the old bridge sections, among other things.
The signposted diversion will be via Annenstraße, Reitbahnstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße, Lutherstraße and Gutenbergstraße. Towards the city centre, the connection between Lutherstraße, Bernsdorfer Straße and Ritterstraße is available. In accordance with the agreements with DB AG, the parallel bridge construction work on the railway overpass on Bernsdorfer Straße will be interrupted during this period so that the area is passable.
Access to the neighbouring properties will be ensured in consultation with the owners.

All road users and neighbours are asked to show understanding for the necessary restrictions. Thanks to the good co-operation of all parties involved, the construction work has been completed on schedule so far.
The new construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge is part of the construction project of Deutsche Bahn AG, the "Chemnitzer Bahnbogen". In this project, the tracks and railway bridges (except for the Chemnitz viaduct on Annaberger Straße) are being renewed in an approx. 2.8 kilometre long section between Augustusburger Straße and the Mitte stop.
As part of these measures, the City of Chemnitz is also carrying out the urgently required renewal of the Zschopauer Straße road bridge.
