Information on the replacement construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway tracks
This week, an important section of the new construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway tracks was completed. The first new section of the bridge was put into operation.
The bridge along Zschopauer Straße consists of two parts, with one bridge structure on the landward side and one on the city side. After demolition and new construction of the landward section, it went into operation this week. Until Sunday 5 July, one lane will be used on the new bridge and one lane on the old bridge, before all traffic will use the new bridge from Monday 6 July.
The landward section of road from Ritterstraße to Lutherstraße, including the pavements and bus stop, will also be completed and opened to traffic in this context. The pavement from Ritterstraße to the bridge has been provisionally paved for the time being due to corona-related material delivery problems. Completion is planned for the beginning of August once the material has been received.
Once traffic has been shifted to the new landward bridge, preparatory work for the demolition of the second section of the structure will begin on 6 July. Preliminary work includes the installation of the shoring for the two excavation pits, the milling off of the old carriageway pavement and the cutting and drilling work on the bridge superstructure in preparation for dismantling.
The dismantling work is scheduled to take place over the weekend of 14 to 16 August with full closure of Zschopauer Straße and the railway tracks below. As with the first part of the structure, this will require working through the night.
Once the new bridge abutments have been constructed in January 2021, the new prefabricated composite parts will be placed on them.
In addition to the replacement construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway tracks, complex road construction measures will be carried out in the section from Lutherstraße to Clara-Zetkin-Straße.In addition to the replacement of the Zschopauer Straße bridge over the railway line, complex road construction measures will be carried out in the section from Lutherstraße to Clara-Zetkin-Straße, cycle lanes will be created, the traffic lights at the Zschopauer Straße/Ritterstraße junction will be renewed and four bus stops on Lutherstraße and Clara-Zetkin-Straße will be made barrier-free. At the same time, inetz GmbH is dismantling a district heating line in the construction area and renewing the drinking water pipeline, the electrical installations and parts of the street lighting.
The new combined water pipe was laid before the bridge construction began as an early measure.
Completion of the entire project is scheduled for the end of October 2021.
All road users and neighbours are asked for their understanding for the necessary restrictions. Thanks to the good cooperation of all those involved, the construction process has so far been completed on schedule.
The new construction of the Zschopauer Straße bridge is part of Deutsche Bahn AG's "Chemnitzer Bahnbogen" construction project. In this project, the tracks and railway bridges (with the exception of the Chemnitz viaduct on Annaberger Strasse) are being renewed in an approx. 2.8 kilometre long section between Augustusburger Strasse and the Mitte stop.
As part of these measures, the City of Chemnitz is also carrying out the urgently required renewal of the Zschopauer Straße road bridge.
