Information events planned for the update of the local transport plan
Evaluation of CVAG's "NEUEN NETZ" as the basis for a revised local transport plan - public information in November - update planned for 2015
Based on the local transport plan for the city of Chemnitz adopted by the city council in 2006, the "NEUE NETZ" went into operation in 2008. It responded to the consequences of changes in the mobility behaviour of Chemnitz citizens, population development, urban redevelopment and a changed industrial and commercial landscape. The aim was to increase the proportion of daily journeys made by public transport and the associated passenger numbers. Chemnitz's public transport system was to become more modern and up-to-date and offer an alternative to travelling by car on many routes.
With the "NEW NETWORK", the public transport service was made more effective. Previously unserved urban areas were opened up at no extra cost. A large number of new stops have been set up and existing stops have been made barrier-free. Bus and train timetables were harmonised and an efficient main network was created. With the "NEW NETWORK", a daily night-time network was created. The basic supply of public transport services was also secured in the peripheral areas of the city.
Experience is incorporated into the update
In 2011 and 2012, the city administration and CVAG then jointly reviewed the results of the reorganisation. The results of this evaluation were incorporated into the subsequent update of the local transport services. A key aspect in the discussion of proposals for the expansion of local public transport services was always the extent to which local public transport funding could be secured and possibly expanded in the future. Without such an expansion, local transport planning has clearly stated that there can be no further expansion of services. At the same time, however, it has so far not been possible to include it in the City of Chemnitz budget. This must also be assumed in the upcoming update of the local transport plan when proposals are made to increase the number of services or for new routes.
Update of the local transport plan in 2015
Due to the legal requirements of the Free State of Saxony, the local transport plan must be updated for the entire area covered by the Central Saxony Transport Association (ZVMS). The city of Chemnitz is integrated as a sub-area in this local transport plan. The local transport plan for the ZVMS network area will be updated next year. From the city of Chemnitz's point of view, the main component will be the commissioning of the Chemnitz model in stages 1 and 2 (linking the main railway station and the Stadt-Umland-Bahn to Thalheim/Aue via Reichenhainer Straße) as well as all associated changes to the city's network. The central task of the city planners is to support the development of the ZVMS local transport plan in such a way that all synergy effects resulting from the Chemnitz model for the city's local public transport system can unfold in the best possible way.
As a second approach to updating the local public transport services, the city planners have worked with CVAG to develop uniform service standards in which urban areas with the same structure can also be supplied with roughly equivalent local public transport services. The existing service was measured against this and proposals were made for adjustments in certain parts of the city.
The city planners have now submitted their proposals on how the inner-city bus and tram network should look when the Chemnitz model comes into operation in stages 1 and 2. It was developed in close co-operation with CVAG. The people of Chemnitz will be given the opportunity to familiarise themselves with these proposals, discuss them and enter into dialogue with the planners at three public information events.
Information events
The events will take place on 06.11.2014, 13.11.2014 and 27.11.2014 from 18:00 to 20:00 in the City Council Chamber of Chemnitz Town Hall at Markt 1.
At each event, the boundary conditions and results of the study for the entire city area will be presented. This will be followed by a detailed discussion of each suburban area.
