Independent providers appointed for new daycare centres

At its meeting yesterday, the city council appointed the independent organisations that will operate three new daycare centres. These new buildings will be located in Altendorf, Am Heim 15, in Bernsdorf on the campus of the Technical University, Reichenhainer Straße and in Reichenbrand, Hohensteiner Straße/Heinrich-Bretschneider-Straße. This will create a total of 300 new crèche and kindergarten places.

Following approval by the Youth Welfare Committee, the City Council decided at its meeting yesterday to assign these tasks to the following organisations: Heim gGmbH für medizinische Betreuung, Senioren und Behinderte Chemnitz for Altendorf, Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau for Bernsdorf and Stadtmission Chemnitz e.V. in cooperation with Johanniskirchgemeinde Chemnitz-Reichenbrand for Reichenbrand. Each of these took first place among the applicants.

The demographic development of children in Chemnitz makes it necessary to create places in daycare centres in order to secure the legal entitlement to a crèche or kindergarten place. At the same time, the allocation of refugee families with children and their integration into daycare centres requires an expansion in the number of places available.

As a result of the implementation of the city council's resolution on needs planning B-060/2015, an expression of interest procedure was carried out for the creation and operation of places in a daycare centre in the Altendorf, Bernsdorf and Reichenbrand districts.
