Increasing fire risk in the forests
The risk of fire in the forests has increased again due to the warm and dry weather of the past few days. In particular, dried leaves and grass on the forest floor are highly flammable, but also residual crown wood and brushwood from previous storms are highly flammable materials.
Visitors to the forest must therefore be particularly careful and attentive. The following must be observed:
- No fires may be lit in the forest and smoking is also prohibited.
- Vehicles may only be parked in designated car parks. Please ensure that they are not parked above dry ground vegetation, as the catalyser can cause the ground vegetation to ignite.
- Access routes into the woods must not be blocked by parked vehicles, as these also serve as rescue routes in the event of forest fires or for rescuing injured persons.
Further information:
The German Weather Service determines the official forest fire danger level on a daily basis, which can be accessed online at https://www.mais.de/php/sachsenforst.php or www.dwd.de/waldbrand.
The free app "Waldbrandgefahr Sachsen" (Forest Fire Danger Saxony) provides not only the current danger level at the specific location, but also information on behaviour in the event of a forest fire. The app can also be used to report a forest fire with geographical coordinates and to make an emergency call. The nearest rescue points in the forest are also displayed.
