Health authority bans all major events from tonight in Chemnitz - Stadthalle and Museum Night affected
There are currently 479 confirmed cases in Chemnitz, 27 more than yesterday.
There are 27 people in hospital, three of whom are in intensive care.
The 7-day incidence of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Chemnitz is now 37, 12 more than yesterday.
Due to the sharp increase in positive corona numbers in Chemnitz, the city's health department is banning the planned events in the Stadthalle and the Museum Night from this evening. A general decree for these and other measures will be issued today.
Dr Harald Uerlings, Head of the Health Department: "The rapid and significant rise in numbers here in Chemnitz leaves us with no other options. Each and every one of us must act even more prudently to help get the further spread of the virus under control."
Further measures include consistent contact tracing: Organisers and operators of businesses, sports facilities, restaurants, hotels, accommodation facilities and gatherings in public spaces must collect personal data for contact tracing with immediate effect. A form required for this is available at www.chemnitz.de/corona.
Events with more than 250 visitors are also generally prohibited.
How long the measures will be maintained depends on how the infection figures develop in the coming days.
