The "Seeds & Seats" installation by Gabriela Oberkofler and Jacob Strobel on the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail will be inaugurated on Friday, 4 April at 2 pm. It is located in the Lobgedichte area on Brückenstraße. The work is intended to create a space for encounters and dialogue that invites visitors to linger by growing plants and text fragments by Bertolt Brecht. In addition, the "Lobgedichte" sculptures were cleaned.
For the installation, paving slabs were removed and filled with humus to create space for perennials such as elderberry, catmint and sage. The text fragments from Brecht's praise poems, which are based on the furniture classics of GDR design, can be recombined by rearranging the chairs.
The artists
Gabriela Oberkofler, born in Bolzano in 1975, lives and works in Stuttgart. She is known for her diverse, often site-specific installations that deal with themes such as memory, nature and social aspects. Her works can be seen in international exhibitions and are characterised by a poetic exploration of space.
Jacob Strobel, born in Würzburg in 1978, is a designer and university lecturer in Schneeberg. He works primarily in the field of furniture design and specialises in the development of functional, but also aesthetically sophisticated pieces of furniture. Strobel combines tradition and innovation in his designs.
The PURPLE PATH
The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail connects Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025 with 38 locations in the region. By the end of 2025, a unique collection of contemporary art in public spaces will be created with works by regional, national and international artists.
