Inauguration of an information stele on the castle hill

Press and photo session: on 11 September, 1.30 pm, in front of the Schloßbergmuseum and the Schloßkirche

On "Open Monument Day" on Sunday, 11 September at 1.30 pm, another information stele will be unveiled on the Schloßberg. The mayor of Chemnitz, Michael Stötzer, will be joined by citizens of Chemnitz who have donated money for the stele.
The programme will be performed by brass players from the St. Petri Castle Church parish. The director of the Schloßberg Museum, Uwe Fiedler, will explain the contents of the information stele.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
The meeting point is directly in front of the Schloßbergmuseum and the Schloßkirche.

The new information stele shows how this place has developed: from the founding of the town, the former monastery, to today's Castle Church and the Castle Hill Museum.
The contents and photos of the stele were compiled and provided by Dr Stefan Thiele, curator of the Schloßberg Museum.

Donations totalling more than 1,000 euros were collected from the citizens of Chemnitz for the Schloßbergstele. The cost of the stele totalled around 2,300 euros.

About the information steles project

Since 2018, several information steles have been erected in the city centre, including at the Red Tower, at the former city gates and at the Karl Marx Monument.
The project is being implemented by the Mayor's Department with the support of the Chemnitz History Association and the Chemnitz Tour Guide Association as well as freelance historians.

Further steles are planned for the Stadthalle and Theaterplatz. Citizens have the opportunity to become a sponsor of such an information stele. Anyone who donates at least 250 euros can be named on a stele.

Anyone interested can contact the Department of European and International Relations, Protocol of the City of Chemnitz: protokoll(at)stadt-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 1520.
