On Wednesday, 3 December at 3 p.m., Lord Mayor Sven Schulze is hosting a reception in memory of Siegmund Rotstein, honorary citizen of Chemnitz, in the Grüner Salon in the town hall, Markt 1. Siegmund Rotstein would have been 100 years old this year on 30 November.
Guests are invited, including family members and friends of Siegmund Rotstein.
Representatives of the media are also invited.
Following the reception at 4 pm, interested parties are invited to a public panel discussion with friends, family and companions, also in the Grüner Salon. Mayor Ralph Burghart will welcome the participants.
Participation in this event is free of charge, but due to limited capacity, please register by 1 December at www.chemnitz.de/rotstein.
The panel discussion will bring together friends, family and fellow travellers: Marion Rotstein, Siegmund Rotstein's daughter, Dr Peter Seifert, former Lord Mayor, Renate Aris, long-standing board member of the Jewish Community, and Dr Jürgen Nitsche, historian, will review memories, share anecdotes and stories and paint a vivid picture of a special person.
The event will be moderated by Cornelia Siegel, Head of European and International Relations, Protocol of the City of Chemnitz.
Siegmund Rotstein was chairman of the Jewish Community of Chemnitz for 40 years. Born in Chemnitz, he experienced the persecution of the National Socialists first-hand in his own family. He returned to Chemnitz after the deportation and rebuilt community life here.
