An invitation to a public exchange of experiences and ideas on citizen participation in Chemnitz and the new possibilities presented using the example of the model project Citizens' Platforms has been issued for Tuesday, 16 April at 5.30 pm at Chemnitz Town Hall (Markt 1).
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig will welcome participants and guests to the City Council Chamber and provide information on the forms of citizen participation in Chemnitz that have been initiated and already successfully practised under her leadership, present the new model projects Citizens' Platforms and Participatory Budgeting and provide information on the current status of the online petitions project.
The agenda for the two-hour event also includes a keynote speech entitled "Conditions for successful citizen participation". The speaker will be Dr Serge Embacher, former Head of the Coordination Office of the National Forum for Engagement and Participation at the Federal Network for Civic Engagement (BBE). Representatives of the Chemnitz Centre-West and Chemnitz-South citizens' platforms will then present the pilot project supported by the City of Chemnitz. Members of citizens' initiatives and associations will come together with interested citizens, representatives of the city council and the administration as well as the existing citizens' platforms for workshops.
According to the City of Chemnitz Citizens' Office, which is responsible for organising the event, the aim is firstly to get to know each other and exchange experiences, but also to identify opportunities for further networking in the city areas and finally to initiate further citizens' platforms. The event will end with feedback from the workshops and an outlook on further opportunities for citizen participation in Chemnitz.
Note: Before the start of the event, members of neighbourhood and citizens' initiatives and associations will be presenting themselves at an "information exchange" in the foyer of the town hall from 5 pm.
