Important rules for all returnees from abroad

Voluntary tests possible at various locations in Chemnitz

People returning to Germany from a Covid-19 risk area are generally obliged to go into a 14-day home quarantine immediately after entering the country and to inform the public health department of their arrival. This obligation applies to everyone without exception.

People who come from such an area (regardless of whether they were there on holiday or for other reasons) should either call the public health department on 0371/488 5302 (Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 pm, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm) or send an email to corona(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.
The public health department will then discuss the next steps with those affected.

Failure to comply with these rules can result in severe fines.

Note: Home quarantine means staying exclusively within your own four walls. It is not possible to go shopping or for a walk. Visitors are also not permitted.

The currently designated risk areas can be found on the RKI website(www.rki.de).

In Europe, these are currently: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey. Outside Europe, the USA, for example, is also affected.

It is strongly recommended to obtain up-to-date information before travelling or returning, as the classification of risk areas can change at any time depending on the development of coronavirus infections.

People who return from a holiday in a country that is not a risk area and still show possible symptoms should contact their family doctor by telephone.

The following facilities are available in Chemnitz for people who have no symptoms and would like to be tested for coronavirus voluntarily:

  • GPs (Please call them before visiting a GP practice. Further information can be obtained from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians on 0371 27890).
  • Infection outpatient clinic at Chemnitz Hospital, Bürgerstraße 2, Haus 11, 09113 Chemnitz Registration/appointment: 0371 333 42471 or -42449
  • DEKRA Automobil GmbH Chemnitz, Neefestraße 13, 09119 Chemnitz Registration/appointment: 0371 3513 259

Note: These tests are not possible at the public health department.

As things stand at present (30 July 2020), the costs for the voluntary test are to be borne by the patient as a private service (IGeL).
