Implementation of the requirements of the state directorate

Treasurer blocks some items in the city administration's budget

City Treasurer Ralph Burghart has placed a freeze on some budget items in order to fulfil the requirements of the State Directorate for the current 2023/24 biennial budget.

In accordance with the requirements of the State Directorate, the City of Chemnitz is obliged to reduce the gap between expenditure and income as quickly as possible. In addition, there are further expenses that were not planned for when the budget was adopted in the spring. These include, for example, the wage agreement in the public sector and rising costs in youth welfare.

For this reason, items totalling almost 5 million euros were blocked in the budget. These items mainly include management costs or expenses for the maintenance of buildings, which were not fully utilised in previous years either.

Treasurer Ralph Burghart: "This freeze only affects just under 0.5 per cent of our budget for this year. We remain capable of acting in all areas, but we must start to close the gap between income and expenditure again in good time so that we remain capable of acting in 2025 and beyond."
