Hundreds of families celebrate a colourful Children's Day festival in the city centre

Hundreds of Chemnitz residents celebrated a colourful family festival in Chemnitz city centre today on Children's Day. Numerous parents and grandparents visited the programme around the town hall, in Innere Klosterstraße, in Rosenhof, at the Red Tower and in the Stadthallenpark with their youngest children in wonderful weather, where various initiatives and players offered games, fun and sport.

Mayor Barbara Ludwig visited the family festival at midday with Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer: "The future belongs to our children! I am delighted that so many families accepted our invitation and celebrated Children's Day with us in the city centre. This is the city as we want it! I would therefore like to thank everyone who demonstrated peacefully today and everyone who attended the family festival - thanks to everyone involved in the festival and to the police for accompanying the demonstration and for their competent protection of our family festival."

The Chemnitz Theatre's "Little Witch", the vehicles of the professional fire brigade and the basketball tournament with the Niners basketball team were just some of the attractions. Seed balls could be made at Düsseldorfer Platz, and face painting for children was very popular at the municipal theatres. In the Rosenhof, countless laps were made on the KidsCar track, and in the Stadthallenpark, children listened to stories being read aloud and watched them being illustrated.

The colourful programme ends tonight with a "Children's Day at the Kopp" on Brückenstraße.
evening.
