"Humans and animals - a tense and exciting relationship"
Teacher training on animal welfare at the adult education centre
On Thursday, 3 December 2015, the Chemnitz Environmental Centre, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, the Evangelical Forum and NATUC, the Department of Ecology and Sustainability of the Chemnitz University of Technology Student Council, are offering a training course on animal welfare for teachers. The training course will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, Moritzstraße 20. The training is funded by the Saxon Education Agency, is recognised as teacher training and is free of charge. Teaching is not a prerequisite for participation.
The introductory presentation will be given by biologist Kai Meister. The participants will then take part in four workshops on the topics of factory farming, animal welfare and hunting, international species conservation and animal husbandry in zoos and circuses. The timetable is organised in such a way that participants can attend several workshops during the afternoon of further education.

Humans have been using animals for thousands of years. Mostly they exploit them. Only recently has it been recognised that animals are not things but fellow living beings and that humans must take care of their welfare. In addition to describing the situation, the training aims to highlight possible courses of action to improve animal welfare.
