How young people experience poverty and marginalisation
Adult education centre: New exhibition of drawings at the TIETZ
A new exhibition is now on display at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre on the 4th floor of the TIETZ. It shows drawings and thoughts from children and young people from Chemnitz who experience poverty and marginalisation in their everyday lives.
The objects in the exhibition were created in November 2021 during Caritas' nationwide "One Million Stars" campaign day. The solidarity campaign was intended to raise awareness of the situation of families who are particularly affected by the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
To this end, the Caritas Association for Chemnitz and the surrounding area organised a campaign on the Sonnenberg. Young and older residents of the neighbourhood were invited to record their thoughts on the following questions: What do you miss most every day? What helps you not to feel marginalised? What do you wish for yourself and your family?
The exhibition also invites visitors to illustrate their own thoughts on these questions. Pens and paper are provided for this purpose. The resulting drawings will be presented at the exhibition finissage on Thursday, 19 May at 4.30 pm. There will also be an opportunity to discuss the topic of poverty and marginalisation.
The presentation of the exhibition is a co-operation between the Caritas Association for Chemnitz and the surrounding area and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
