How spring will bloom in Chemnitz
Flower bulbs already planted in autumn 2012 - 12,400 spring bloomers still to be planted - Fountain season traditionally starts in mid-April with the planting at the Red Tower
The start of spring is now approaching in the calendar, and Chemnitz has already made provisions for the colourful spring of flowers that will hopefully soon begin in autumn 2012: 4,800 flower bulbs have already been planted by employees of the Parks Department. In addition, as soon as the weather permits, 12,400 pansies will be planted after the winter. When exactly the planting will start will of course depend on the weather and the corresponding temperatures - however, representatives of the media will be invited to the traditional photo session on site in good time for the start of planting.
The friendly spring bloomers will blossom together with 1,900 daffodils and 2,900 tulips in the park by the Red Tower. Together with the 3,000 tulips already present on the Schloßplatz, spring flowers will bloom on a total of almost 900 m² of public green space. Together with the flower bulbs from autumn 2012, a total of more than 71,900 flower bulbs were planted in the city. The majority of these were already planted in autumn 2011 for the 2012 season, so that although fewer bulbs were planted for the 2013 season, this is sufficient for the natural reproduction of the spring bloomers.
The total number of bulbs is made up of the following species: 31,000 crocuses, 10,500 daffodils, 9.000 snowdrops, 9,000 blue starflowers, 5,900 tulips, 4,500 snowdrops and 2,000 hyacinths . The spring bloomers will be supplied by the company Gärtnerei Wilhelm Willkomm GbR from Dresden. The cost of the spring bloomers is €3,250.
The start of spring in Chemnitz naturally also includes the commissioning of the fountains this season
The operation of 14 fountains is planned for this season: Klapperbrunnen fountain on the Straße der Nationen at the bus station, Völkerfreundschaft fountain on the Straße der Nationen, Schirmbrunnen fountain on the Straße der Nationen, Kinderbrunnen fountain on the Straße der Nationen, Hochzeitsbrunnen fountain on the Straße der Nationen at the IHK building.e of Nations at the IHK building, fountain at the Red Tower - City Hall, Rosenhof fountain (near the tower block), Zipper fountain on the castle pond island, castle pond fountain in the park at the castle pond, water basin at the Sachsenhalle (Dr.-Salvador-Allende-Straße), Sprudelstein in the Grüna district, Ginkgo fountain in the Rosenhof, the Azzano fountain in the street Am Rathaus and Saxonia fountain on Johannesplatz.
Last year, 18 fountains were put into operation at the start of the spring season. The reduction to 14 fountains in 2013 was made due to the necessary budget consolidation of the city of Chemnitz. Just under € 67,000 has been budgeted for the operation of the 14 fountains in 2013. The commissioning of the most attractively designed and, based on experience, most frequented municipal fountains is supported not least by sponsorship.
The company eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co KG manages seven fountains on the basis of a service contract with the City of Chemnitz.
Seven fountains are sponsored by operators in the form of contributions in kind, for example the Klapperbrunnen fountain at Chemnitz bus station by the supplier eins energie.
The fountain season begins with the commissioning of the fountain at the Red Tower in the 16th calendar week; the other fountains will then be gradually put into operation until 8 May 2013.
