How new media are changing our democracy
Adult education centre: Lecture on 28 March, from 7 to 9 p.m., TIETZ
On Monday, 28 March, from 7 to 9 p.m., interested parties are invited to a lecture at the adult education centre in the TIETZ, course room 4.07. Journalist Thomas Ammann and media educator Jonas Weber will talk about new media and the effects on our democracy: What mechanisms are at work? How has the role of the media changed? What influence do these changes have on social coexistence? How can personal rights be safeguarded?

The corona pandemic is not the first time there has been a change in the use of the media. In addition to traditional journalistic media such as radio, television and newspapers, the internet and social networks are becoming increasingly important. What's more, anyone and everyone is not just a reader on these platforms, but can also become an author and spread their opinion or information without being scrutinised. Algorithms, filter bubbles and the protection of personal rights are just some of the issues being discussed.
Thomas Ammann is a journalist, TV producer and former deputy editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine "stern". Jonas Weber works as a media educator on the subject of media skills at Social Web macht Schule gGmbH.
The event is part of the vhs project "trau.schau.wem? faktenfest und mediensicher". It is sponsored by the Saxon State Media Authority (SLM) and takes place in cooperation with the Saxon State Centre for Political Education as part of the "controversial on site" series.
