How do floor guidance systems work for blind and visually impaired people?
Adult education centre: Event on 12 October, 5 to 6.30 p.m., TIETZ
On Wednesday, 12 October, from 5 to 6.30 p.m., interested parties are invited to an event on floor guidance systems for blind and visually impaired people as a crucial aid to orientation. The event will take place in course room 5.42 of the adult education centre at TIETZ Chemnitz, Moritzstraße 20. Both sighted and blind and visually impaired people are invited.
Participation is free of charge. Registration is possible at www.vhs-chemnitz.de/kurs/W2218010 or by calling 0371 488 4343.
Kathrin and Lars Geithner from the Chemnitz/Stollberg district organisation of the Saxony Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired will explain exactly how floor guidance systems work for blind and visually impaired people. This will be done using the concrete example of the high-contrast guidance strips in the VHS area on the 4th and 5th floors of the Chemnitz TIETZ. Participants can also try out for themselves what needs to be considered when laying a guidance system.
What do the white ribbed and studded plates, which can also be found at traffic lights, bus stops and railway stations, mean? What other aids are there for blind people? Which guidance system is used at Chemnitz main station and why? These and many other questions will be answered during the course.
The course is part of the programme of the nationwide Week of Sight from 8 to 15 October 2022.
