Honours for successful Chemnitz track cyclists
Kristina Vogel, Joachim Eilers and Max Niederlag sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz
The city of Chemnitz welcomes its world champions: tomorrow, Thursday at 10 a.m., Mayor Barbara Ludwig will receive the successful Chemnitz athletes who caused a sensation at the Track Cycling World Championships in London in the canteen of the sports high school. "My heartfelt congratulations on these outstanding performances at such a major event. We are now looking forward to the 2016 competition year with the highlight being the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro," said the Lord Mayor.
The Chemnitz athletes were able to shine at the Track Cycling World Championships in London last week. With two gold and one bronze medal, Joachim Eilers from the Chemnitz Police Sports Club (CPSV) was the most successful participant at these World Championships. After already standing at the top of the podium in the 1000 m time trial and winning bronze in the team sprint, he secured his second gold in the keirin on Sunday. His team-mate from CPSV Max Niederlag took bronze with him in the team sprint. Kristina Vogel from the Erdgas Team 2012 won the gold medal in the keirin and bronze in both the team and individual sprint.
They were honoured for their achievements in London with an entry in the city's Golden Book. Kristina Vogel and Joachim Eilers will be present in person. In the canteen of the sports high school, Reichenhainer Straße 210, Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig will honour them in the company of coaches, club colleagues and students.
