Honorary citizenship awarded to Justin Sonder
Ceremony on Friday, 21 April, 5 p.m., Chemnitz City Hall, City Council Chamber (admission from 4.30 p.m.)
On 21 April 2017 at 5 p.m., the City of Chemnitz will award honorary citizenship to Justin Sonder in recognition of his tireless commitment as one of the few Auschwitz survivors and one of the last contemporary witnesses to keep alive the memory of the atrocities committed by the National Socialist regime.
The city's highest honour will be awarded at a ceremony in the City Council Chamber of Chemnitz Town Hall. The laudatory speaker will be Christoph Heubner, Executive Vice President of the International Auschwitz Committee.
During the ceremony, Justin Sonder will sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz.
The event will be accompanied by music from the string quartet of the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra. Numerous guests, such as honorary citizens, members of the federal and state parliaments and the city council, representatives from business and sport as well as companions, friends and family of Justin Sonder will be present at the ceremony.
Representatives of the media are also cordially invited to attend the ceremony.
