Holiday tip: Excursion to the show feedings in the Chemnitz zoo's wildlife enclosure
Especially during the summer holidays, you can take long walks through the beautiful grounds of the Oberrabenstein Wildlife Park, which is part of Chemnitz Zoo. During the holiday season, the facility, which turned 40 this year (PM 262 from 16.05.2013), hosts show feedings from Monday to Friday. So if you want to find out exactly what the wolf and lynx, wild boar and mouflon have to offer, you should turn up at 11 a.m. each day. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays you can meet the wolves and lynx, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays the wild boar and mouflon.
The show feedings are also a good opportunity to ask the zookeepers questions about their charges. With a bit of luck, visitors can also see the lynx cub born in mid-May, which lives in a natural enclosure together with its lynx parents. Chemnitz Zoo has been successfully breeding Carpathian lynxes for years and is also a member of the European Lynx Stud Book. Offspring from Chemnitz now live in many European zoos.
After your visit to the wildlife enclosure, we recommend a visit to the reservoir area right next door, including a refreshing dip(www.stausee-rabenstein.de), before continuing your walk to the zoo grounds on Nevoigtstraße.
Date: On Sunday, 21 July from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. there will be a DRK blood donation day with a large children's programme in the zoo - detailed information on this will be provided in a separate press release.
Opening hours: Game park: 8 am to 6 pm, animal park: 9 am to 7 pm.
